Beginning with our work on Shakespeare’s so-called “seventh signature” in 2012, the Lazarus Project has visited the Folger Library every spring to image important documents in their collections in an ongoing collaboration.
In 2013, we recovered erased and scratched-out ownership signatures in copies of the First Folio, as well as other rare Early Modern books. Our interest of late has centered on female ownership, and bleached and erased marginalia. We are also excited to begin a new project using raking light and densitometry to measure allographs of early printed books, with an eye to correlating the wear on the type to the order of printed pages.
